San Sebastian is in the Bay of Biscay on the east part of the north coast of Spain close to the border with France.  It is considered a top resort area in the Basque region of Spain.  Look at the panoramic picture of the city below and you can see why it is so popular.  It is a protected bay within a bsy, has beautiful beaches and ideally located.
First stop was to pick-up our guide, Esther.  Then it was off to the Miramar Palace.  This was where the Spanish royalty stayed when they were visiting San Sebastian.  It sits on top of a hill and has a beautiful view of the area.
Yes, we were BOTH there!
Again we find beautful gardens.
View of the harbor from the palace/
Look closely at the picture of us.  On the hill in the background is a statue of Christ.  The picture of the statue was taken from the same spot.  We didn't get any closer.
Our guide, Esther, giving Granny a ride.
We went to the "town square".  Esther told us that this used to be the focal point for residents of San Sebastian.  Everything took place here.  Even bullfinghts.  All those balconies and windows belong to apartments on the square.  At the present, each apartment may consist of 3 or more windows  At one time each window was a separate unit where people could watch all the festivities.
Then there was the church of San Sebastian with a statue of St. Sebastian standing over the entrance.  It looks like he ran into a little trouble.
It wouldn't be a Gourmand Break tour if we didn't have a "gourmand break"  For this experience, Esther took us to a small restaurant where they serve "pintxos" which are sort of like Basque tapas.
Quite a selection from which to choose.
This was our selection.  I don't remember what all the bites were but included on the plate in the center are "tempura"prawn, cheese and a type of ham with some type of jam, a sardine pintxo, and some I can't identify.
Here we are enjoying are pintxos while chatting with a Californian we met there,   On the right is Katy, the, owner of the restaurant - an unbelievable 89 years old.
After our pintxos repast, we took a short stroll back to the car and with our driver, Jesus, we started our journey back to Bilbao.  We took the shore route for a while and Jesus stopped at one of the towns so we could have a drink and look around.  We went into a small cafe on the docks and I was able to get a few interesting pictures.  I don't know what the big "tubes" are.  They appear to have ropes coming out of them.
